Doug Malewicki's Other Favorite LINKS

I have tried to put most of my Links right with the various inventions and projects sections where I felt they apply. This is STUFF from my family, Internet and engineering friends along with other things I'm interested in.

Fellow engineer, Steve Bruhn of Houston, Texas, is an old Human Powered Vehicle buddy of mine and now is the famous official "FACTORY SPECTATOR".   You have heard of Factory Racers, whom get paid to go from race venue to race venue.  Well, Steve gets paid to go spectate at all the major Motorcycle MotoCross (MX) events around the country.  After the events, Steve stays up all night posting his digital camera shots, race results and sterling comments on the Web.  The MX magazines and newspapers are all jealous of his instant news technology and keep sending beautiful women spies to pry his trade secrets from him.  How do you like Steve's sample to the right! See more at Steve's client site: ICS Racing
Thanks to innovations in motorcycle suspension technology since the early 70's, such awesome heights are routine nowadays.  It also took the involvement of a generation of young racing fans who were inspired by "air" pioneer Evel Knievel.   These kids grew up learning how to do stunts with BMX bicycles, skateboards and roller blades.  By the time they became Motocross Racers, they were already mentally in tune with the physics and dynamics of it all (no equations needed!).  They are not so much fearless, as highly practiced and perceptive.  Heck, they enjoy it!

Cousin Bob's "Pine Ridge" Bed & Breakfast

Located in the heart of the rolling Kettle Moraine's in East Troy, Wisconsin (Southern Wisconsin countryside).  An elegant fieldstone home located on 18 acres of forest.  A secluded lake, a big pool, a giant fireplace, and usually booked up a year in advance!

Cousin Rich's "EASY WASH"

Porsche 72 jpg 80.JPG (13585 bytes) This is Doug Malewicki's 1972 Porsche 914. The photo has December 1973 printed on it's border.  The "groovy" bell bottoms my Australian friend, "Mad Max #2" Baz Hawley is wearing also help verify the era of the photo.  Baz is grey haired now, but healthy as ever.   He has completed the Western States 100 four times (running 100 miles through the mountains) and is the founder/organizer of the popular annual Orange County Ortega Mountain Winter Trail Running Series
         (Feet First Promotions (714) 842-2337)
I ran Baz's 8K, 12K, 16K, and 18K races this past January and February 98 and thoroughly enjoyed the beauty of them all (even the 18K - which was really 20K plus with 2,790 feet of elevation gain).  Magic!
Porsche 96 jpg 80.JPG (14152 bytes) Trail Run.jpg (9151 bytes) This is approaching the FINISH line after the 18k on February 15th (actuallly 12.2 miles = 20K+).  ONLY smiling cause I survived!
Wearing Goretex because it rained a bit - which became a georgeous light SNOW at the higher elevations!
Hah!  Nobody older than me beat my time (which has been typically almost twice as long as the serious, young winning racers).

This is a May 1996 photo of Doug in his same car.  It was last repainted in 1988.  It has never been washed with soap! A long time ago, cousin Rich, whom used to be a professional Corvette Custom Painter for years, taught me that soap damages the finish.  (Just hose your car down with water, wipe it with a wet towel and dry it out using old, soft towels.)  In 1984, Rich invented a silicon based spray solution he named "EASY WASH".   Now we don't even bother rinsing our cars (that really bothered me at first).   Just spray it right on top of the dirt and wipe it off (It apparently floats the particles to the top, so the anticipated fine scratches never happen). Fast and no streaks.  Works on the window glass and rubber, too.  Rich tells me the big manufacturere's have finally developed similar good products.  If you want the original, contact him directly.  (My 25.75 year old machine has just turned 383,000 miles.  It still looks and runs just as good as ever!  It's called preventative maintenance!)
